Our Mandate & Areas of Work

The institutional mandate of the All India Rail Safety Council is to advance railway and metro safety through education, research, professional development, public awareness, knowledge exchange, innovation and constructive stakeholder collaboration. AIRSC serves as a professional platform for bringing together expertise from engineering, operations, disaster management, technology, human factors, security, sustainability and public policy.

Through its programmes and specialised initiatives, AIRSC seeks to complement the efforts of competent authorities and sectoral stakeholders by promoting informed dialogue, professional capacity and voluntary safety improvement. Unless specifically authorised by the appropriate authority, the Council’s activities should not be interpreted as exercising statutory, regulatory, recruitment or certification powers reserved for government bodies or legally empowered agencies.

Railway and Metro Safety

AIRSC promotes comprehensive safety awareness across railway and metro planning, construction, operation, maintenance and passenger-service environments. Its work may address infrastructure safety, operational risk, signalling awareness, rolling-stock safety, station management, trackside hazards, level-crossing safety, occupational safety and emergency preparedness.
