Passenger routes should be easy to understand and free from unnecessary obstacles. Proper separation of arriving, departing and waiting passengers can reduce congestion and prevent conflicting movement.

Crowd management is particularly important at major stations and during festivals, holidays or service disruptions. Permanent holding areas can accommodate passengers away from crowded platforms until their trains are ready for boarding. Digital passenger-information systems can communicate train timings, platform changes, delays and safety instructions more effectively. AI-enabled CCTV systems, emergency communication facilities and station-level control rooms can support crowd monitoring and incident response. Universal accessibility must remain a core principle of station development. Ramps, tactile pathways, accessible toilets, lifts, reserved waiting areas, suitable ticket counters and clear signage can help passengers with disabilities travel with greater safety and dignity. Accessibility features must be maintained properly and kept free from obstruction.

Station modernisation should also strengthen fire protection, electrical safety, lighting, sanitation and drinking-water systems. Emergency exits must remain visible and accessible, while fire alarms, extinguishers and communication equipment require regular inspection. Clean platforms and properly maintained facilities reduce hazards and improve passenger confidence.

Safety-conscious design must be supported by responsible public behaviour. Passengers should use designated pathways, avoid sitting on staircases, keep emergency routes clear and follow instructions from authorised personnel. Safe Platforms, Disciplined Boarding and Alert Travel Can Protect Every Life

Safe railway travel begins before a passenger enters the train. Behaviour on platforms, at doors and during boarding or alighting can directly influence personal and public safety. Alertness, patience and discipline are simple responsibilities that can prevent falls, injuries, separation from family members and other avoidable emergencies.

Passengers should always remain behind the marked platform safety line until the train has stopped completely. Standing close to the edge is dangerous because an approaching train may create strong air pressure and unexpected movement. Running, playing, pushing or taking photographs near the platform edge can place both the individual and surrounding passengers at risk.

Passengers must allow people to exit before attempting to board. Those waiting should stand to the sides of the doorway and keep the centre clear for alighting passengers. This orderly movement reduces congestion and gives additional protection to children, senior citizens, pregnant women, passengers carrying luggage and persons with disabilities.

Attempting to board or leave a moving train is extremely dangerous. Passengers should never run beside a train, hold an exterior handrail, place a foot on a moving coach or jump onto the platform. Missing a train is inconvenient; risking a life is irreversible.

Coach doors, vestibules, stairways and platform circulation routes must remain unobstructed. Luggage should be carried and stored responsibly so that it does not create a tripping hazard or block emergency movement. Passengers should use foot overbridges, subways and authorised routes when changing platforms and must never cross railway tracks directly.

Mobile phones require responsible use at stations. Looking at a screen, using earphones at high volume or taking selfies near tracks can prevent a passenger from noticing approaching trains, announcements and crowd movement. Digital activity should stop whenever full attention is required for boarding, alighting or moving through a congested area.

Parents and guardians must keep children close, explain platform-safety rules and ensure that they do not run or play near trains. Children should know how to identify authorised railway personnel and should be taught to remain where they are and seek official assistance if separated from their family.

Passengers should immediately report unattended objects, damaged facilities, smoke, sparks, overcrowding or unsafe behaviour to authorised railway personnel. They should avoid spreading unverified information or creating panic. Calm communication and cooperation can make a major difference during an emergency.
